The World Golfers Amateur Tour (WGAT) Carolinas Tour will stop at Cape Fear national Golf Course on August 9, 2014 for a WGAT National Qualifier event. Players participating in this event will be competing for a one in five chance to advance to the WGAT National Championship September 27-28, 2014 at Mission Inn Resort and Club at Howey in the Hills, Florida. For every five rounds played at this event, the WGAT Carolinas Tour will send one player to the national championship.Flight winners from the WGAT National Championship will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Durban, South Africa to represent Team USA against the world in the WGAT World Championship November 1-8, 2014.
Transfer to the national championship from the qualifier will be determined by low net scores. PLayers with a 25 handicap or less will be allowed to participate. A verified USGA handicap is preferred, but not required. Tour directors will consider “unverified” proof of handicap. Interested participants who do not have a USGA GHIN card should contact the tour directors prior to registration for clarification. Entry fee for the Cape Fear tournament will be $215.00. Players who register will receive their round, lunch, range balls, a Golfsmith gift card, and a Platinum Golf Membership from East Coast Golf Management, and other prizes to be announced.
The WGAT Carolinas Tour will host three National Qualifier events in August. The following weekend (August 16, 2014), the tour will stop at the Grande Dunes Resort Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where one in ten players will advance to the national championship. Then on August 16, 2014 the tour goes to International World Tour Golf Links where one and 20 players will advance to the national championship.
The WGAT was established in 1994 and has tours in 44 countries. The USA joined the WGAT just two years ago and the Carolinas Tour has recently been established for the 2014 – 2015 wrap -around season that begins in October 2014 and runs through August 2015. The WGAT Carolina Tour will host between 12 and 24 tournaments in its inaugural year at elite courses throughout North and South Carolina.
